The London-based rapper Ghetts will headline the 2019 RAP.UA Hip Hop Awards this 15 June in Kharkiv. He will be performing as part of the British Council’s Selector Live project.
A resident of East London, Ghetts is among the most dynamic performers of grime music, the genre that developed out of UK garage, jungle and hip hop and within a decade had risen from obscurity to the top of the British charts. Ghetts’ music has received broad airplay on British radio, including BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100, the BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Selector Live is a concert series organized by the British Council in partnership with local music agencies in support of the new British music radio show The Selector. In previous years, Selector Live shows in Ukraine have featured acts like British Sea Power, Young Fathers, Slaves, Ghostpoet, Everything Everything, Max Cooper and Benjamin Clementine. You can tune in to the Ukrainian language broadcast of The Selector every Tuesday on Radio Aristocrats.
The RAP.UA awards ceremony is set for 15 June at the Mechanics Art Factory in Kharkiv. An earlier announcement by the event has identified that the Belarussian group LSP would also be performing at the ceremony.
