Contemporary UK dance  at Zelyonka Fest 1.6

On 24 and 25 April the British Council presents performances of UK choreographers Igor & Moreno and Anthony Lo-Giudice at the International Festival of Contemporary Dance Zelyonka Fest 1.6 that takes place in ‘Plivka’ art space of the Dovzhenko Centre cultural cluster.

Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas from Igor & Moreno will perform “Idiot-Syncrasy” on Sunday, 24 April, at 19:00. This performance was nominated for the National Dance Awards 2015, Total Theatre Awards 2015, and was featured in the British Council Showcase 2015.

Igor & Moreno have harmoniously combined a minimalism of external elements with folk traditions of Sardinia and the Basque Country. The Public Reviews website called ‘Idiot-Syncrasy’ an evolving exploration of strength, unity, humour, hope and tenderness that is unexpectedly life-affirming.

“We wanted to create a sense of expanding capabilities in the viewer – without words we bring the idea that you need only your body, only your voice to be happy,” – choreographers say.

Igor & Moreno will also perform in Kharkiv on 26 April (House of the Actor, 19:00) and run workshops for dancers on 25 April. See details here.

On 25 April at 20:00 another UK company Lo-Giudice Dance will present ‘Savages’, a spectacular and dynamic work that reveals the fantastic story about a journey of one man in a scary world of love, loss and sacrifice.

The setting is focused on an answer to the question: are we really so far from our barbarous ancestors in moments of a highest tension? A wild romance and a mystery that lie in their choreography are mixed with battle cries and violent, even erotic movements.

On 24 April Anthony Lo-Giudice will run a master class for dancers – see details here.
