The Undiscovered Country: Devising from Shakespeare

Through practical exploration of the language, characters and governing ideas in Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, Hamlet, we will look at ways of taking the text of a play as a starting point for devising a new piece of work.

Participants will need to have read Hamlet before the workshop, but do not need extensive knowledge of the text.

Registration is closed.

Complicity and connection with Everyday technology

In this workshop we will work with examples of everyday communication technologies to find ways that they can subvert and surprise theatrically.  We will examine this in the context of two classic texts, and the participants own projects.

The Transformation of a Classic Text

This master class is for directors. Each participant has to prepare his own concept for one of the three proposed texts: "Stolen Happiness", "Romeo and Juliet", "Othello". The director’s task will involve transforming the text so that the historical relates to the present. The recasting can be either about the present or about the future. It is important that you preserve the original but tell YOUR story. Choose your text regardless of its author while holding on to your trust in his story. During the master class we’ll work with your prepared concepts.
