Selector Live: Benjamin Clementine

2015 Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine will perform in Kyiv on 14 May as part of Selector Live.

Benjamin will present his album ‘At Least for Now’ which was awarded the prestigious Mercury Prize for the best independent album of the year in the UK. Among other shortlisted acts competing for this year’s Mercury Prize were Florence + The Machine, Aphex Twin and Jamie Smith (Jamie XX).

"I am an expressionist. I sing about what I say and I say what I feel; I feel that I play sincerely like nobody other", Benjamin says.

Due to his dramatic, inspirational and touching performances, as well as unparalleled vocals Benjamin has often been referred to as ‘a male reincarnation of Nina Simon.’

Benjamin’s first ever performance in Ukraine is part of Selector Live – a series of concerts of the best new UK music. Previous Selector Live acts who performed in Ukraine were Young Fathers, Ghostpoet, Slaves and Everything Everything.

The concert is organised by the British Council and concert agency H2D.

Global media write about Benjamin:

‘His talent, poetry, agility in inventing strange melodies leave no doubt. In such a saturated market real identity will always rise above the others.’ (All Music)

‘His piano songs sound unique.’ (The Observer)

‘One of the most distinctive voices of our generation.’ (The National)
