Selector Live Presents: Jungle Brown Brings the Golden Age of Hip-Hop to Kyiv
For some time now the British music scene has been churning out excellent hip-hop and grime artists. One example: Jungle Brown, whose most recent release shows skill in fusing the latest trends with classic sounds of 90’s hip-hop. They bring the vibe of A Tribe Called Quest and blend it with future rap, adorning it with a smooth sax line from Ayo Yung Afrika Pyoneer and backing vocals from the trio’s own producer, Tony Bones. For their Kyiv appearance, Jungle Brown will feature their latest disc—Full Circle.
Place and Date: 14 March, Caribbean Club
Jungle Brown’s debut disc—Flight 314—dropped in 2016 with no promotion or advertising budget and still managed nearly one billion plays online. The band hovered near the top of the Apple Music charts for nearly the entire year, shattered playlist records on Spotify, made frequent television appearances and even grabbed the attention of radio industry leader Ebro Darden of Beats 1. Released in September 2019, the group’s second full-length disc features appearances by Sampa The Great, Fliptrix (High Focus) and Terry Walker.
The trio – Ric Flo, MAEAR & Tony Bones – have spent the last two years redefining soulful hip-hop – the sound is bigger, more thought-provoking, and it has matured with a rich soulful underpinning. They have also entered territories fans are yet to hear from them as they glide effortlessly over Tony Bones’ productions that introduce trap and house into their repertoire. The project is an eclectic array of their influences, twisted and blended together to create a ground-breaking release for UK music.
Jungle Brown has earned the respect of industry lights like De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, Lowkey, Akala and Donaeo, who invited the trio to perform with them. Having played Glastonbury and Boomtown, the trio is ready to take the stage in Kyiv.
