This 25 May, storied master of stage and screen and peerless Shakespearean lead, Sir Ian McKellen, turns 80. We recognise the legendary actor’s birthday with special encore screenings of two of his finest recent efforts in a mini-jubilee we call Ian McKellen – 80!
Our homage leads off on 25 May with the wildly popular King Lear: McKellen in which Sir Ian delivers a stage performance as sumptuous as it is incisive – and reportedly, final – in the title role of this Shakespearean colossus of tragedy and redemption.
Then on 26 May we’ll bring you the premiere – and sole – Ukrainian screening of Kenneth Branagh’s All Is True, in which McKellen plays Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, joined by Dame Judy Dench as Anne Hathaway, and Sir Kenneth Branagh as William Shakespeare. An assembly of British star power not to be missed!
All films to be shown in the original language (English) with Ukrainian subtitles.
