The winner of the British Council’s Best Newcomer of the Year award will attend London Fashion Week each February, join the British Council’s international delegation and take part in a bespoke business mentoring programme facilitated by London College of Fashion. The programme is a unique opportunity for young fashion designers and entrepreneurs to understand the global fashion market, develop their international contacts and internationalise their trade.
The winner of the British Council’s Best Newcomer of the Year award will also get the chance exhibit his or her work at London Fashion Week and represent Ukraine at the British Council/British Fashion Council’s annual International Fashion Showcase exhibition at Somerset House. The designer will feature in our Next in Line section of the exhibition, which is a new platform which seeks to support and promote designers at an early stage in their careers.
Established in 1984, London Fashion Week is the British capital’s fashion trade event and of the most important fashion events in the world. Run by the British Fashion Council, it takes place twice a year –in February and September.
The International Fashion Showcase is a collaboration between the British Council and the British Fashion Council to showcase the work of emerging fashion talent from around the world. It has been running for four years now – in its last edition (2014) it presented the work of 110 designers from 30 countries, making it the largest public fashion exhibition of its kind. A public programme of talks and events run throughout the showcase, including a Designer Support Programe facilitated by London College of Fashion (LCF). The programme brings together a network of LCF-affiliated academics and researchers to help designers prepare for the showcase by offering them mentoring opportunities and seminars on business development.
