Teaching English in Military Universities

The project aims at supporting teacher development in Ministry of Defence universities and high schools, encouraging quality teaching of English for Specific Purpose (ESP) and introducing the ESP approach to teaching in tertiary and secondary education in the military sector.

The British Council delivers training courses to around 40 teachers from 10 higher education military institutions all over Ukraine and to 15 teachers from military lyceums. The Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defence University of Ukraine (Kyiv), The Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy (Lviv) and the Kyiv Ivan Bogun Military lyceum are hosting the training courses planned for the year 2020.

The training courses are based on the Certificate in Vocational English Language Teaching (CiVELT) and Teaching for Success (TfS) modules developed by the British Council. The CiVELT modules cover the main aspects of teaching English for Specific Purpose: ESP essentials, needs analysis, course and syllabus design, presenting language and language skills for ESP, assessment and evaluation practices. Critical Thinking and Understanding of 21st Century Skill are introduced in Teaching for Success modules as crucial aspects of successful English language teaching.

The training course participants are awarded the British Council certificates.
