In her imaginative interpretation of David Eldridge’s “Under the Blue Sky”, Ukrainian Director Tamara Trunova puts the author’s evident sympathy for his characters – drawn from among his fellow educators – to the test. Bereft of any authorial sentiment, however, Trunova’s Kyiv National Operetta Theatreproduction of these homely personal dramas took a farcical turn. In the end, her six-person troupe consented to her vision and the musical accent provided by the Operetta Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Bogdan Reshetylovby subtly underscored the absurdity of the action on the stage.
