On 25 September in Vinnitsia the forum “Inclusion of people with disability into the reform process” was held, where the Director of the British Council in Ukraine, Simon Williams, and the Deputy Director of the British Council in Ukraine, Natasha Vasylyuk, announced the winners of a journalists’ competition for covering disability issues in the media.

The competition was held by the Vinnytsia civil society organization “Harmony” under the IDEAS (Inclusive Decisions for Equal and Accountable Society) Project, which is being implemented by the British Council together with the National Assembly of Disabled People in Ukraine, financed by the European Union, and which aims to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities and to include persons with disabilities in the decision-making” process at local and national levels. Representatives of printed, electronic media, radio and media companies took part in the competition. 

The winner of the competition was Olesya Shutkevych, correspondent of “Vinnytsia newspaper”. Olesya received a Samsung tablet as a prize from the British Council. The second place winner was Inna Kozovita, correspondent of “Trybuna prazi”, and the 3rd place winner Yurii Prokopenko, Vinnytsia poet, publicist and blogger.

The works of the competition winners show positive impacts for persons with disabilities, have been written using appropriate terminology and photo or video materials, cover successful experience in the disability sphere, create a positive image of persons with disabilities and are real for the local community.

The competition jury consisted of representatives of the British Council, the National Assembly of Disabled People in Ukraine and project experts.
