Training Programme for Academic Managers is a unique initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. It is implemented by the British Council as part of the joint project of the Ministry of Education and Science and the World Bank ‘Ukraine Improving Higher Education for Results’. University teams from Ukrainian state higher education institutions (HEIs) participate in the Programme.
The programme aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of Ukrainian HEIs by improving academic managers’ skills in higher education transformation, good governance, strategy, finance, people management, internationalization, and institutional change.
Programme Content:
Module 1: Role of Universities in the Context of Social Transformations;
Module 2: Strategic Management in Times of Uncertainty;
Module 3: Human Resources Management;
Module 4: Finances, Resources, and Projects.
Programme Structure: four residential training sessions (Wednesday - Saturday, once per month), team assignments, presentation of an institutional change project at an international online conference.
Residential training sessions will take place in:
- Kyiv (in partnership with Mariupol State University)
- Lviv (in partnership with Ukrainian Catholic University)
- Dnipro (in partnership with Dnipro University of Technology)
Higher education institutions will be assigned to the corresponding location according to their actual location.
The Programme is equivalent to 6 ECTS credits.
Programme participants will be granted the British Council Certificate upon successful completion of each module. Successful completion of the full Programme will result in Certificate of Professional Development, in accordance with the Resolution No. 800 (August 21, 2019) on professional development of academic staff of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The first cycle of training sessions will take place from 2 April 2025 to 19 July 2025. The international online conference will be held in mid-September 2025.
University Teams
Each university team should consist of 5-7 core team members and 2 reserve members.
Categories of participants: vice-rectors, deans & vice-deans, institute directors & deputy directors, heads of departments, heads of administrative units. Each team may include one member without a managerial position at the time of application. Teams represent different structural units within their institution.
Participation in the Programme is free for selected university teams. However, travel and accommodation expenses are covered by the participating HEIs.
Call for applications for the first Programme cycle is over. Call for the second Programme cycle will be announced in July 2025.
