The School-based mentorship project was initiated in 2020 aiming to create a positive impact on teaching of English by providing professional development opportunities to teachers and teacher educators to enable them to improve their students’ learning outcomes.
This programme may act as a model for other subject areas in the future. With the core purpose of improving teacher development, the British Council is collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute for Education Development (UIED) and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MESU) on the design and implementation of a sustainable Mentoring framework for English language teachers.
An initial group of 100 targeted model schools have provided their teachers to participate in a pilot scheme to test the concept. Teachers participated in a training course which helped them understand their role as mentors and what they can do to help their mentees improve their teaching skills.
