The British Council is inviting schools and their English teachers to take part in the School-based Mentorship programme.

The School-based Mentorship programme is aimed to develop school mentors who will be able to support their mentee teachers in their continuing professional development.

The programme includes:

  • Mentorship training course for English teachers
  • Seminar for school Principals and Vice-Principals (Sponsors)
  • Two-month British Council support with setting up the programme
  • Mentorship Toolkit for mentors and Sponsors

About the School-based Mentorship Course

During the Mentorship training course, participants will be able to:

  • get deeper understanding of how teachers learn and factors influencing teacher learning;
  • identify benefits and challenges of mentoring and being mentored;
  • familiarise with observer roles, behaviour and practices in developmental observation, and steps of the observation process;
  • familiarise with the processes of mentorship and learn how to implement the mentorship scheme in their schools.

The four-week course will be delivered on the Online Teacher Community (OTC) platform of the British Council. It consists of four self-access modules, forum discussions and live reflective sessions.

OTC facilitators will support teachers in the programme.

Participation in the programme is free of charge.

Application and eligibility

We invite applications that are submitted by English teacher on behalf of their schools across Ukraine.

Applicants are expected to:

  • Complete the School-based Mentorship course.
  • Collaborate with the British Council on setting up a mentorship programme in their schools.
  • Implement the mentorship scheme in their schools: identify a teacher (mentee), create a plan of his/her professional development, observe his/her lessons, analyse them and help a mentee teacher to improve their teaching skills.

How to apply

Note! Before applying, English teachers have to receive full support* of their school Principal and/or Vice principals in taking part in this Programme.

Applicants (English teachers) should complete and submit the online application form by Friday, 10 December 2021, 18:00 Ukraine time.

*Before submitting the form, applicants should inform the principal and deputy-principal and get their approval for implementing the school-based mentorship scheme in their school.

Terms and conditions

Selection criteria of the Programme participants:

  • teaching experience 5 + years;
  • level of English minimum B2 and higher;
  • qualification category: Specialist of the first or higher category;
  • confident ICT user;
  • willingness and commitment to develop professionally and support other teachers in their continuous professional development;
  • willingness to set up a school-based mentorship programme in their schools;
  • full support of school principal and deputy-principal in implementing the school-based mentorship programme.

Selection

Selection will be conducted by a panel that consists British Council representatives.

The applications that are fully completed and submitted by the deadline will be considered by the evaluation panel.

The applications will be assessed according to the applicant’s eligibility and the quality of information provided.

Due to the volume of applications, feedback on unsuccessful applicants will not be provided.
