The British Council leads the way in shaping Ukraine’s contemporary theatre landscape with an effort that brings UK directors to work with Ukrainian actors and playwrights, to create innovative shows that expand the repertoire of local theatre and challenge the status quo with new ideas and experience.

The first play supported by the Council premiered at Kyiv’s Academic Molodyi Theatre in autumn 2013. Called Take.Love.Run, the play was based on a novel by Ukrainian playwright Oksana Savchenko. The production was headed by UK director Caroline Steinbeis, who spent a month in Kyiv working on the piece.

Performed in Ukrainian, Take.Love.Run tells the story of a contemporary Kyiv family on the edge. The show is now part of the Molodyi repertoire, with performances each month throughout the theatre season.
